Fukushima Leaks More Radiation

By B. McPherson

The news from Japan makes one wonder where the truth lies. Perhaps we should wonder where the lies are rather than hope for truth from the authorities at TEPCO. Since the earthquake and tsunami in March that devastated large areas of Japan and wrecked the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant the world has been receiving evasive answers about the extent of the damage to the reactors and the amount of radioactive material spewed into the environment. ….
Today Japan Today has news of a new radioactive leak from the crippled power plant.

While authorities speaking for TEPCO have assured the public that there is no danger from today’s leak, they are taking measures to damp down the radiation by spraying water and boric acid onto the failed reactor container. Junichi Matsumoto is quoted:
“Given the signs, it's certain that fission is occurring,” Junichi Matsumoto, a general manager at Tepco who regularly talks to the media, told reporters in Tokyo today. BusinessWeek
Reactors 1 and 3 were also damaged in the disaster last March and may also be expected to release more radiation.

The radiation plume from the March calamity has reached around the world. The Pacific Ocean has received the largest amount of human generated radioactive material ever. It is unknown at this time how this massive dumping of radioactive material into the environment will affect the sea life and the humans around the globe. We do know that it will not be a positive influence. From past experience, we can count on more cancers, more birth defects echoing down the generations and more damage done to our fellow living creatures.

TEPCO has been guarded with the truth over the past few months, trying to minimize worries about the damage that the Fukushima plant has done to Japan and its people. Now a politician has done a publicity stunt by drinking a glassful of water from the ruined nuclear plant to illustrate that the water coming from there shouldn’t worry the public. As a stunt it’ right up there with the British politician having his young daughter eat British beef at the height of the Mad Cow epidemic or the American politician drinking a beaker of Agent Orange to show the public that they are “perfectly safe”. And we know now how safe those things were.

It’s time for the world to demand that TEPCO and the Japanese government come clean.
